Program Overview

Your Open Campus Block program in Osaka empowers you to craft a study abroad experience rooted in exploration, flexibility, and global perspective. You'll enroll in CIEE courses and online courses taught through CIEE's global academic partner, ASU. Through co-curricular and extracurricular activities, immerse yourself in local culture on excursions such as a guided visit to Osaka Castle, a day trip to Nara to explore Todai-ji Temple and Nara Park, and a street food experience in Dotonbori featuring takoyaki and okonomiyaki. Osaka delivers a dynamic study abroad experience grounded in culture, history, and community.

  • Witness Japan's national sport by attending a live sumo tournament or a morning training session at a local stable, exploring the power, ritual, and tradition of sumo
  • Visit Nara Deer Park and Todai-ji to see the world's largest bronze Buddha and interact with the sacred deer that roam freely around the historic temple grounds
  • Walk through a life-sized recreation of Edo-period Osaka, exploring how daily life and the city's streetscapes have evolved over centuries
