Program Overview

Your CIEE Semester Intern and Study Abroad program in Barcelona lasts 12 weeks and features three key components: A part-time internship with an international organization (approximately 20 hours per week), an internship seminar, and two elective courses taught online through CIEE’s global academic partner, ASU. Enhance your experience with co-curricular and extracurricular activities while building career skills, expanding your professional network, and immersing yourself in Spanish culture. Live, learn, and work in Barcelona!

Unique Experiences

Create and refine 3D models and animations

for a virtual and augmented reality company

Design and analyze roads, bridges, and water systems

at a tech and engineering services organization

Liaise with vendors and coordinate with logistics

to organize a short film and animation festival

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Barcelona will open doors for you to explore Spain’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad. 

Samples of past excursions and activities: 

  • Visit some of the most emblematic neighborhoods in Barcelona to immerse yourself in the local culture
  • Go on a business-related visit to learn about production and management in a local Spanish factory
  • Take a day trip and hike in Montserrat, a Benedictine monastery retreat high atop one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in Catalunya

CIEE Barcelona: Study near Barcelona’s main square, Plaça Catalunya, on a beautiful pedestrian passageway, only minutes from cafés, restaurants, and important cultural attractions. CIEE Barcelona features classrooms, a student lounge, conference rooms, and charming 19th-century terraces where students can relax outdoors.

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by CIEE in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
