Program Overview

Your CIEE Summer Intern and Study Abroad program in Legon lasts 6 weeks and features three key components: A part-time internship with an international organization (15-20 hours per week), an internship seminar, and a 3-credit academic course taught online through CIEE’s global academic partner, ASU. Enhance your experience with cultural and extracurricular activities while building career skills, expanding your professional network, and immersing yourself in Ghanaian culture. Live, learn, and work in Legon!

Rotate through various departments, including pharmacy and vitals

at a hospital located in the greater Accra region

Gather data through surveys, interviews, and focus groups

  • Academic Courses: Choose from in-person courses at CIEE Cape Town or online courses delivered by CIEE’s global partner, ASU, that align with your academic major

Excursions & Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Legon will open doors for you to explore Ghana’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, contemporary trends, vibrant art, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

  • Travel to Cape Coast and Elmina to see slave castles and the starting point of the Transatlantic journey they were forced to take
  • Discover regional highlights such as the Aburi Botanical Gardens, Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, and the W.E.B. Dubois Center
  • Experience the rhythms of traditional or contemporary Ghanaian dance and music
  • Enjoy the stunning Kakum National Park with its canopy walkway and rainforest
