Your Semester in Edinburgh program lasts a full semester and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in a combination of CIEE courses, host institution courses, and courses taught online through CIEE's global academic partner, ASU. Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Edinburgh will open doors for you to explore Scotland's rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.      

Samples of past excursions and activities: 

  • Hike up Arthur’s Seat, an ancient volcano and hill in Holyrood Park that offers superb walks and stunning views over the city
  • Take a walking tour of the city center, with attractions like Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Princes Street Gardens
  • Go on day trips to soak up Scotland’s stunning geography, such as Stirling, St. Andrews, and the beautiful Scottish Highlands

Academics

CIEE Edinburgh: Study within the Eric Liddell Community Centre, a beautifully converted church, located near coffee shops, restaurants, gift shops, and vintage stores. Situated 25 minutes from the city center, CIEE Edinburgh features classroom space, meeting rooms, a café, and a second-hand bookstore.

Edinburgh Napier University (ENU): Founded in 1964 as Napier Technical College, ENU took its name from John Napier, who was born in 1550 in the medieval tower house of Merchiston Castle (the site of the university's Merchiston campus). ENU is a top-ranked institution serving around 12,500 students in engineering, computing, nursing and midwifery, science, business, timber engineering, and transport studies programs. The university offers a range of creative courses, including film, graphic design, music, acting, publishing, and product design.

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by CIEE in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.

Internships

Edinburgh boasts a lively business sector, education and tourism center, and key financial and tech firms. As the seat of the Scottish Parliament, it offers numerous public sector opportunities and a thriving social enterprise landscape. Festivals and a creative community support Edinburgh's arts and culture scene.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
